We’ve tested a variety of gaming seats and systems at our demo gaming centre, and we gave the fanatec range a thorough going through! As you’d expect from a German Company – a solid piece of gaming seat Engineering from a German organisation with links to Porsche!

Wheel Stand

The issue we have with Gaming Cockpits/Seats (eg. VisionRacer, BobEarl, Cockpit etc) is that they take up so much room, and in todays environment many families just dont have the room. The competitive pricing of the wheel stand make this a muct have product… The RennSport started life as a step up from the traditional keyboard/mouse, or joystick. In my experience, PC users were generally keyboard & mouse focussed, whilst console people used joysticks. The Wheel stand is something different – you can use whilst sitting on a couch, and have a fantastic experience. If you imagine the life cycle of gaming controls, we started with the keyboard, then the joystick, the mouse, the pad and now we have the wheelstand. The next stage in the evolution would be a cockpit/gaming seat – although we’ll cover that in another article.

Solid engineering makes a real difference in the car, and the gaming seat is no different – just like BMW or Audi, Fanatec deliver the goods!) and it does the job well. The product isn’t in the same league as VisionRacer or Cockpit, and the price reflects this. Fanatec products are solid pieces of engineering that hold up to the rigours of gaming seat punishment, and you dont need a table for them either – just your games machine! WheelStand investors usually have consoles, and this is probably due to the ease in setup and use.

One of the advantages of the RennSport Wheel Stand is that it doesn’t take up much room, and you can use your existing sofa to get something comfortable and enjoyable. Comfort comfort comfort – neat and tidy, and readily accessible pedals make this a real pleasure!

If you are short on space for a gaming seat – get the WheelStand, its a worthy investment! A real plus is that it is easy to pack away, whilst being rock solid – being made out of aluminum, this really helps.

Fanatec CockPit

The CockPit has great adjustment range, it looks impressive, and you can make some adjustments to the monitor height. Young family… get this, I.e. a range of different sizes, as the Cockopit can be adjusted for the individual. The sliding keyboard holder is a nice touch too. The gaming seat products benefit from the design pedigree of porsche!

Combine the Cockpit Gaming seat with an XBOX or PS3 steering wheel such as the G25, and you wont look back. Out of the box the Fanatec Gaming Seat Cockpit supports a 3 monitor configuration, either 3*24″ displays or a single 37″ display. Acoustically, it was a nice touch to see the inbuilt 5.1 design.1 surround sound too. You dont have a Gaming Seat unless you have a superb audio system, and this cockpit has all this.

We found the CockPit a good competitor to the VisionRacer, British vs German Engineering – so here’s a thought – buy a VisionRacer and a Fanatec Cockpit and race against each other, Aston Martin vs BMW!

Who Said Games Controllers Were Boring?

There can’t be many people who do not know the big three video games systems currently available in the stores. Everyone compares the PS3 with the Wii and with the Xbox 360 on the basis of quality of graphics but we should also consider the benefits of the games controllers available.

Controller design is something the games machine manufacturers spend a lot of money on designing them and we usually just use them without thinking. The original Xbox was released in 2001 and it came with the controller known as the duke controller.

It turned out that Microsoft got it wrong and people found the controller was too large to use comfortably so they didn’t enjoy playing the Xbox so much. Very quickly they changed the controller for an alternative controller known as the S model which is much like the 360 controller you get today.

The current style of controller is quite the most comfortable and one which you are happy to play with. Meanwhile the controller for the Playstation in use today is not as new as it might look.

There are not that many changes from the the PS2′s having had a few internal modifications. The original PS3 controller appeared very different but it’s new control layout was soon abandoned.

The talk is that it wasn’t as simple and easy to use as the time-tested PS2 one. There is little doubt they came right in the end but they need to be sure to get it just right when they release their next games platform.

There is nothing basically wrong with the current system but a new system will mean people expect high standards when they come out with new ideas. With the current financial climate it may be we will have to wait some time but we will be looking out for something special when it arrives.

The last machine we look at is the controllers we get with the Wii games system which are a breath of fresh air. The wii bundle comes with a wiimote and this is very different and hard to compare to the other games system controllers.

The designers were thinking outside the box with the wiimote with a novel and a completely original approach to the idea of controlling games you are playing. Bring out the motion sensing controller is more revolutionary than all the other games console improvements since the earliest days of computer games.

We should be grateful for the wonderful way this technology has been developed and is being used to add to your enjoyment and there is little doubt that the next generation of gamers will consider this is the way to play. When the Wii bundles were first released hardened gamers dismissed the graphics chips used in the Wii though they didn’t realise what a great change the controllers introduced.

It will be fascinating to discover anything different in the next round of new games console releases and what their and if price is no problem these are the ones to get. It seems likely they will be who knows what new features they might offer us and they could be completely different to what we expect.

What is the best driving game?

There are several ways you can buy a car whether it’s from a retailer or contract hire. The same goes for ways in which driving games are made, whether they are realistic, pc based, console based or just there for a laugh what is the best driving game out there?

The game that comes into my head first is not what you would expect from a driving game. Easily the most unrealistic driving game ever made. it is the awsome Mario Kart. Gaming is not about realism it is about how much fun you have when playing the game and Mario Kart is a great example of this. It is simply an awesome game with tonnes of characters, karts and bikes to choose from. Being able to use special items is the best element of Mario Kart, things such as giant shells and lightening can be used to inflict maxium damage and satisfaction.

Another great game is the fantastic Forza 2 on Xbox 360. This game is brilliant as it not only looks very realistic you can play it online as well as choose every single part of the car from the paint to the engine. You take damage if you crash and have to make several put stops just as you would in reality to change the tyres and get more fuel. The great thing is that it isn’t just brilliant cars; it ranges from the Golf GT to the Lotus Elise. If you use a wheel with this game then it actually feels like you are driving a car, especially if you have one with the gears as well. Going at 100mph round one of the games corners and you are going to see your car spin out of control and hit many others along the way.

The Grand Turismo series is another great looking game. Always been known for its realistic gameplay, number five most certainly does not disappoint. The cars im the game look exactly the same as you would see them looking at them through a showroom window.

it is exactly true in reality. Some of the cars you can get are at quite affordable prices. You can get car contracting on pretty much any model nowadays ranging from mini’s right the way to Mercedes contract hire. Some of the prices are under £300 which is an absolute bargain and a great way to beat the downturn.

Games have every car you could possibly wish for but nowadays new cars are just too expensive.

With the extraordinary popularity of the SpongeBob SquarePants animation series, there has been a real explosion of games featuring the wonderful funny characters of the underwater worlds. Most of the SpongeBob games have only an online version, and the download option is usually accompanied by a fee charge. Basic Guide to World Of Warcraft

What is WoW?

World of Warcraft or WoW as it is more commonly known, is a MMORPG which is an acronym for “Massively Multi player On-line Role-Playing Game”. In an MMORPG, thousands of players from around the World exist in the same on-line game world at the same time. They leave the real world behind and undertake heroic quests in a land of fantastic adventures.

In the game there are two opposing factions at war with each other: the Alliance and the Horde. When you have decided which side to play there are nine classes of character to choose from: Shaman, Warlock, Warrior, Druid, Hunter, Mage, Paladin, Priest and Rogue.Each class has its own unique set of talents and abilities. You can, depending on the class of character that you have, choose to build your character’s talent trees for damage-per-second (DPS), tanking, healing or a combination of these.

There are 10 races to play: Orcs, Tauren, Trolls, Undead, Blood Elves, Dwarves, Gnomes, Humans, Night Elves and Draenei and many professions your character can play: Alchemy, Black smithing, Cooking, Enchanting, Engineering, First Aid Fishing, Herbalism, Leatherworking, Mining, Skinning, Tailoring, Jewelcrafting, and Inscription. (Note: Within the Rogue class there are two unique secondary professions: Lock Picking and Poisons).

There are thousands of quests to complete with many different kinds of weapons and transportation. In addition, there are four types of Realms which will be the very first decision you will have to make before playing World of Warcraft. Within the game itself there are two “modes” of character:

  • Player Characters (which are controlled by real people)
  • Non-Player Characters (which are controlled by the games’ software)

So you can find yourself playing a “real” person as well as the games created opponent.
Your character can earn copper, silver or gold to fund your adventures. In addition you will need to work on the different skills for your character.

There are many guides on the market and all do pretty much what they say they do but some have the additional feature of forums and members areas to help you level your character from 1-70. With that in mind though players are free to go at their own pace and pit their skills against multiple opponents. World of Warcraft is Blizzard Entertainment’s 4th game in the Warcraft series and is now played by over 10 million people world wide! It starts 4 years after the setting of Warcraft III in the world of Azeroth.

The Horde and Alliance are opposing factions locked in a battle for control of the land – and neither side is backing down. Horde and Alliance players can battle each other, but they cannot interact, trade or even talk to each other.
