Cox and King, who are still trading as a travel agent today, are often quoted as being the first travel agent, however this is somewhat inaccurate. In actual fact Cox and King founded in 1758 were then in the business of banking and the travel services they provided were only available to its own wealthy clientele. The first modern travel agency, operated by Thomas Cook, opened its doors in 1841 some 83 years later.
The popularity of Travel agencies grew in the 1920′s. Along with the development of commercial aviation, travelling abroad became more commonplace amongst the wealthy middle and upper classes. The boom in mass-market package holidays during the 1950′s and 60′s brought travel to the working classes and resulted in travel agencies appearing on the high streets of most British towns. This type of travel agent typically catered to working class clients looking for a cheap and cheerful beach holiday.
Today’s travel agent provides a hub for travel related products including flight tickets, car rentals, hotels bookings, railway tickets, sightseeing tours and package holidays. It is the estate agents job to seamlessly stitch together your travel arrangements so that your holiday, business trip or whatever reason you have for travelling is trouble free.
The Internet, Friend or Foe?
Many airlines and other travel companies saw the growth in public internet access as an opportunity to sell directly to the customer and save on commissions to travel agents. The high street travel agencies have lost significant ground in this area to internet sales; however travel agents remain dominant in other areas including cruise holidays.
Travel agencies have responded to the internet threat by developed their own highly visible internet presence, complete with detailed information and online booking capabilities. Some online travel websites even allow visitors to compare hotel and flight rates and sort travel packages by amenities, and proximity to a city or landmark.
Whether it’s for a vacation or a business trip most travellers start their research online, those who simply looking for flights will probably conclude their business online. When a traveller is looking for a complete package that includes flights, hotel reservations, car hire and perhaps tickets to any of the Disney parks, they are still likely to conclude their business offline in the offices of a travel agent.

Product Description |
Pioneer's TS-A6963R 6-by-9-inch three-ways now feature upgraded power handling of 270 watts max. (40 watts nominal). And this year, the A-Series speaker line feature something they've inherited from the D-Series speakers, a basalt cone. Pioneer continues to set an example with next-generation technology for improved sound: the tweeter, magnets, surrounds, the voice coil wire, the basket and more are all high-performance components that make up a great speaker. | Pioneer's A-Series Speakers Pioneer A-series speakers outperform factory speakers on nearly every level. Packing a powerful punch, A-Series speakers are equipped with up to three independent tweeters with reinforced woofers, so every beat is heard and felt. Featuring a bigger, better cone than most OEM speakers, the A-series boasts serious output and booming bass. Extra-sensitive tweeters play at higher frequencies and are capable of handling stronger audio signals, resulting in vocals that are crisp and clear, even when you crank the volume. | TS-A6963R Features Carbon Graphite IMPP Interlaced Aramid/Basalt Fiber Cone One of Pioneer's major speaker breakthroughs was IMPP (Injection-Molded Polypropylene), which allowed cones to be lighter and more rigid. Pioneer then added long stands of Aramid fibers into the mix, for extra strength. Now, they've gone even further with the TS-A6963Rs, adding basalt and carbon graphite interlaced with long aramid fibers to provide strength and rigidity that powerful bass sound requires. High-density compressed internal architecture is resilient, stacks up against high power well and transfers sound quickly. The result is full-bodied, rich sound with midrange depth that conventional IMPP cones cannot match, and the durability to stand up to the high volume levels, humidity, and temperature extremes that thrash other speakers. Large Diaphragm Tweeter The newly developed tweeter disperses sound more widely with superior control, providing listeners with the best sound under all conditions, regardless of listening position or car. And the 1" mounting depth achieves more flexible installation. Heat Resistant Polyester-Imide Resin Voice Coil Wire Creating mechanical energy is hot work, especially at high volume levels. And as we all know, heat can cause distortion. That's why the TS-A6963R uses a heat-resistant polyester-imide resin voice coil wire. It allows the voice coil to handle more heat, improving input power handling as well as reliability. So go ahead. Turn it up. Power Handling The TS-A6963R now handles a full 270 watts max. power (40 watts nominal). Along with enhanced power handling, you still get the same high performance that all the TS-A's deliver |

Bang for the buck

| Amazing speakers for the price. I was really amazed at how well these sound. These replaced my factory Bose speakers in my Acura and first time listening to these I felt like I had installed a sound system. Tight Bass, clear mids. I use an iPod through a cassette adapter and these really opened up the sound. I can drive with the windows down and still hear clean crisp sound at high level without distortion. Every now and then I find myself turning down the bass because these can hit low and hit hard. |
Best sound for the money!

I just replaced the rear deck speakers of my 99 Mazda 626 with these speakers, and I have to say that for the price you wont find anything better! Installation was relatively easy (keep in mind this is the first time I have actually replaced car speakers) and Pioneer was even kind enough to include screws and wiring. The speakers themselves are great. The bass is tight and strong, but don't expect the same quality as from a purpose-built subwoofer. The high frequencies are neither tinny nor piercing, and the mid-range sounds smooth and natural. I look forward to putting the 6" x 8" 3-way units from Pioneer into the doors and pairing them with the new head unit for a little extra power.
I listen to a whole range if music from regular rock and electronic to brutally mechanical industrial and EBM. No matter what type of music is played it sounds great coming through these speakers! I'd most definitely recommend these to somebody looking for great speakers at a great price. |

I bought these and the same make only 4 way instead of 3 for the front. I only have an aftermarket radio with 4 channel 20 watt. The sound on these is amazing for how little they cost. Very easy to install and came with connecting wires. The highs and mids are flawless and the bass hits are tight and not at all muddy or distorted. My friend said he could hear me pulling up and could hear the music as if he were standing right there. I listen to heavy metal and industrial by the way, to give an understanding of the sound Im comparing it to.
it comes with two speakers, if youre still not sure. |
Can't beat the performance for the price

I have a 99 Camry and replaced the stock 6x9's with these. I do have a stock AMP, FYI. I ran them off the stock stereo for a week. They were an improvement off the stock speakers for sure, but sounded "sloppy". I probably would have graded them a 3 at that point. This weekend I installed a new Pioneer head unit (stereo) and the difference is crazy. My new unit had many more sound manipulation options (equalizer, etc.) which really brought out the performance in these speakers. Plenty of base for those wanting great sound without being obnoixous.
In short, I think these are great speakers. But if you are just replacing speakers and don't have a stereo with an equalizer, you won't maximize their performance. |
